What You Shouldn't Store In Your Storage Barn

A storage barn can be an excellent place to store many of the things that you just don't have room for elsewhere -- however, there are definitely limits to what can be kept in your storage barn. Read on to learn about the things that just don't belong in your storage barn.

What Not to Store in Your Barn

The things that you should never store in your storage barn include:

  • Cans, Bottles, or Containers of Food: Food needs to be in a stable environment, even though it doesn't always have to be refrigerated. Some foods, for example canned goods, can become contaminated due to corrosion caused by moisture. The hotter that it is outside, the more likely food is to spoil. Additionally, when it's very cold weather it's possible that anything containing liquid will swell and burst open.
  • Precious Art: Precious art -- and in fact any artwork -- shouldn't be stored in an unstable temperature. Heat and cold can both cause serious problems. Artwork can develop mold from humidity, and paint can easily become brittle and chip when it's freezing outside.
  • Electronic Devices: Any electronic devices -- or even anything that has electronic components -- is best stored in a stable temperature environment. Heat can melt and destroy wires and other components, humidity can cause corrosion, and cold could potentially cause brittleness and breakage.
  • Antiques: Antique furniture and other antiques can be quite valuable -- and delicate, too. This means that storage should only be in a temperature controlled environment. Warping, mold, termites, and a number of other issues can strike antique furniture if it's left in a storage shed, so make sure it has the interior storage it deserves.

Your storage barn is a good place to leave a number of things that aren't delicate or highly valuable. Be sure to carefully consider all items before you stack the storage barn up this year.
